MONDKUCHEN—TOMORROW’S TOUCH

„Sehnsucht“ – ein deutsches Wort, das eigentlich in keiner anderen Sprache eine Übersetzung findet: desire/longing, aspiration/nostalgie, anhelo/ansia/nostalgia – sind nur Umschreibungen. „Sehnsucht“ ist für mich ein starker Antrieb für die künstlerische Arbeit.
Erzählst Du mir etwas über Deine Sehnsucht/Sehnsuchtsorte oder Musik, Texte etc., die für Dich „Sehnsucht“ verkörpern oder transportieren? Ideen? Spontane Assoziationen? Ich bat Freunde unmittelbar und auf Facebook um Unterstützung für meine Recherche.
Da ich zumeist alte, zeitintensive Handwerkstechniken (Filzen, Nähen …) nutze, um meine Objekte aus Fundstücken und oftmals menschlichem Haar herzustellen, stolperte ich öfter in Beschreibungen meiner Arbeiten über das Wort „Nostalgie“. Aber es geht mehr um die Geschichten hinter dem Material und die Erfahrung mit dem Material – es dreht sich alles um den ständigen Wandel, die unvorhersehbare Natur und die Erfahrung von Zeit selbst. Was bedeutet „Sehnsucht“ in diesem Kontext? Wonach sehne ich mich? Als Künstlerin, als Frau, als Mensch?
Die Wellen des Meeres werden oft als Symbol für Sehnsucht gesehen, das Sehnen nach der Berührung eines Menschen in der Zukunft als erste Assoziation genannt – oder wie Cyrano de Bergerac den traurig-schönen Zustand umschreibt: „Ist nicht vergebliches Heldentum viel schöner als der Sieg?“
Diese Recherche und einiges Material – Fundstücke und ein noch nicht fertig gestelltes Papierobjekt, werde ich mit nach Montréal nehmen – als Ausgangspunkt für meine Installation. Sie wird stark mit dem Ort verbunden und prozessual sein – abhängig vom Raum und dem Material, das ich vor Ort vorfinde.

Would you tell me about your “Sehnsucht/Sehnsuchtsorte” (places of longing) or music, writings etc. which embodies or transports “Sehnsucht”? Any ideas? Spontaneous associations? I asked friends directly and on facebook to support my research on the topic of “Sehnsucht”.
Using old, time consuming, manual craft techniques (e.g. felting, sewing …) to create objects made of found material and often human hair I more frequently come along the word “nostalgia” when my work is described. But it is more about the stories and the experience behind the material—it is about the constant change, the unpredictable nature and experiencing time itself.
So what does “Sehnsucht” mean in that context? What do I long for? As an artist? As female, human?
The ocean waves were mostly seen as a symbol for Sehnsucht, the longing for a touch of a person in the future mentioned as the first association—or as said by Cyrano the Bergerac “futile heroism is far more beautiful than a victory”.
This “research” and some material—founds and one not now finished paper hair object, which I will bring to Montréal will only be the starting point of my installation. It will strongly be connected with the place and be a work in progress—depending on space and material I will find.
