[…] Im Gegensatz zu den drei Wandarbeiten von Karin Magar wählt Mirjam Elburn einen der im ersten Innenhof des Laboratoriums aufgestellten Steinkuben zur Realisierung ihres Objektes. Den bemoosten Steinquader versieht Mirjam Elburn mit einer Umhüllung aus Stahlwolle. Die Struktur der Stahlwolle weist starke Parallelen zu der organischen Struktur von Moosen und Flechten auf, welche den Stein bewachsen. Die Künstlerin verwendet die Stahlwolle in einer Technik, die sie aus dem Bereich des Filzens mit Wolle entlehnt hat. Die an organisches Material erinnernde Struktur der Stahlwolle, welche ein wesentliches Gestaltungsmerkmal bildet, setzt die Künstlerin auch als grafisches Gestaltungsmittel ein. Sie fertigt zeitgleich Drucke, bei denen sie die angefeuchtete Stahlwolle, welche innerhalb weniger Tage Rost ansetzt, auf zartem Papier abdruckt. Die durch Witterungseinfluss bedingte Veränderung des Materials Stahlwolle ist deshalb auch ein von der Künstlerin mitgedachtes Phänomen, welches das Kunstwerk innerhalb der Ausstellungsdauer verändern wird. […] In contrast to the wall connected three works of Karin Magar Mirjam Elburn chooses a stone cube placed in the centre of the courtyard to realise her project. She covered mossy a stone cube with a case of steel wool.The structure of the wool contains parallels to the structure of the organic structure of the moss and lichens, which grew on the stone. The artist uses the steel wool in a was which is common in felting. The structure of the steel wool reminding of organic material, which is a mayor compositional medium, is used as a graphic means. Simultaneously Elburn prints on delicate tissue paper, using the moistened steel wool, which puts on rust within a few days. The massive change of the steel wool by the influence of the weather is a phenomena which is given consideration, an integral part of the work, which will transform the work during the exhibition duration.
